Autumn at The Horton
First for Art will be hosting an autumn exhibition at The Horton this October, with an eclectic collection of professional art on display across two weeks.
As an established art group, our artists are encouraged to explore their individuality, to express their feelings and emotions, and commit them to canvas. There are few rules to creating art and we actively break with tradition and showcase art without prior selection, allowing our visitors to make their own choices from the varied collection on display.
First for Art was founded over a decade ago, to encourage a young man with Aspergers’ to showcase his artwork. Dale Sheen was rejected by a local college prior to being scouted by an international book publisher to create a series of drawings for a book proposal to Minecraft. With this encouragement, Dale Sheen has gone from strength to strength and now actively joins the First for Art exhibitions, assisting and encouraging new artists who join the group.
Horton Chapel Arts & Heritage Society was founded in 2016 to save and renovate grade II listed building Horton Chapel for the benefit of the public, and to run it as a not-for-profit venue for arts and culture. Built in 1901, the building is the last surviving chapel of Epsom’s unique ‘cluster’ of five pioneering psychiatric hospitals.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to browse and buy works from a collection of local artists and photographers. The exhibition will run from Tuesday 24th October through until Saturday 4th November 2023. For detailed opening times please visit https://thehortonepsom.org/visit/
